Why I do This Work

I believe the body holds the power to heal when we give it the right tools — movement, breath, awareness, and skilled touch. Whether you’re dealing with chronic pain, postural issues, stress, or simply want to move and breathe more freely, I’ll guide you toward lasting change.

About Pneuma Yoga

Hi, I’m Rick — Yoga Therapist & Integrative Bodywork Practitioner

I help people relieve pain, restore posture, and reconnect with their breath using a unique blend of hands-on bodywork, somatic movement, and nervous system training. My approach is deeply therapeutic and tailored to your body’s needs — far beyond a traditional yoga class.

My Journey

My path to wellness has been anything but easy. I’ve survived two bouts of cancer, endured countless treatments, and recovered from a serious motorcycle accident. For years, I lived with chronic pain, mobility challenges, and the emotional weight of constant discomfort.

Yoga — and more specifically, Soma Yoga — became my turning point. It taught me how to release deep tension, move with less pain, and calm my nervous system. These practices not only helped me heal but inspired me to help others do the same.

Somatics — Movement That Heals From the Inside Out

What Are Somatics?

Somatics is a mind–body therapy that reconnects you with your natural movement patterns. Through gentle, mindful muscle contractions and releases (called pandiculations), we release tension in muscles and fascia, improve posture, and restore mobility.

This work helps your body “remember” how to move without strain — reducing pain, calming your nervous system, and creating more ease in everyday life.

Who Can Benefit?

Somatics is for anyone who wants to move and feel better — regardless of age, experience, or fitness level.
It’s especially helpful for:

  • People with chronic pain or stiffness

  • Those recovering from injuries or surgery

  • Athletes and dancers looking to improve performance

  • Office workers dealing with posture-related pain

  • Anyone wanting to reduce stress and tension

By retraining the nervous system through mindful movement, Somatics helps you:

  • Relieve tension and pain

  • Improve posture and balance

  • Increase mobility and strength

  • Feel calmer, more grounded, and more at home in your body

Why Breath Matters

Breath is the bridge between your body and mind — and one of the most powerful tools for restoring balance, posture, and mobility. In every Pneuma Yoga Therapy session, we use targeted breath techniques to help you:

  • Release tension and pain by calming your nervous system

  • Improve posture and mobility through deeper diaphragm engagement

  • Boost energy and stamina with optimal oxygen delivery

  • Reduce stress and anxiety using slow, mindful breathing patterns

When your breath becomes more efficient, your whole body follows — movement feels lighter, your mind is clearer, and you have more capacity to handle life’s challenges.

Understanding Pain

Pain is not just a physical problem — it’s a signal from your body that something needs attention. At Pneuma Yoga, we look beyond symptoms to address the root causes:

  • Postural imbalances that strain joints and muscles

  • Fascial restrictions that limit movement and create tension

  • Nervous system patterns that keep muscles “switched on” even at rest

  • Breathing habits that feed tension and stress

Through gentle hands-on work, breath training, and movement re-education, we help your body remember how to move without pain.
The result? Less discomfort, better posture, and the confidence to move freely in daily life.
